At Vine Health, we recognise the unique challenges that come with living with undiagnosed ADHD in adulthood. Our team of experienced psychiatrists offers thorough Adult ADHD Assessments and diagnoses across the UK.

What is ADHD?

ADHD, short for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurodevelopmental condition that arises during childhood as the brain develops. It is frequently found alongside other neurodevelopmental conditions—known as co-morbidities—such as dyspraxia, dyslexia, Tourette’s syndrome, and various forms of autism spectrum disorders.

These co-occurring conditions can often obscure or balance out some of the more noticeable signs of ADHD, something a skilled psychiatrist will be keenly aware of.

In addition to being a neurodevelopmental condition, ADHD in adults is frequently associated with mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. In many cases, the core ADHD symptoms have gone unrecognized for years, hidden beneath the challenges and consequences they have caused.

Understanding Adult ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects both children and adults. While it’s commonly recognized as a childhood condition, many people continue to experience symptoms well into adulthood. With appropriate treatment and support, individuals with ADHD can lead fulfilling, balanced lives without their symptoms interfering significantly with daily functioning.

In adults, ADHD typically involves core symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity—though these may appear differently than they do in children.

When left undiagnosed, adult ADHD can have a serious impact in several areas:

  • Mental Health – Strong associations with anxiety, depression, and other psychological conditions.

  • Daily Functioning – Issues like procrastination, forgetfulness, and difficulty managing responsibilities.

  • Relationships – Emotional regulation, impulsivity, and poor time management can strain personal connections.

  • Work and Education – Struggles with concentration, organization, and completing tasks can hinder performance.

Getting a Diagnosis through

Vine Health

First Step (Diagnosis)

Before your appointment with the doctor, we’ll send you a set of pre-assessment forms to complete. These must be returned to us at least 72 hours before your assessment. There are four simple forms:

  1. An adult ADHD rating scale

  2. A brief questionnaire about your heart health

  3. A form to describe your personal background and current challenges

  4. A short questionnaire for someone who knows you well—this could be a partner, relative, friend, or even a colleague.

We understand that some people may feel anxious about this last form—whether due to concerns about what others might say, not wanting to disclose they’re being assessed for ADHD, or feeling unsure about who to ask. Please don’t worry. If you’re unable to provide this form, we may need to do a bit of extra assessment, but we’ll work with you to find a solution.
